AN OFFENBACH OPERA?!?!?!........IN NEWCASTLE?!?!?!

Description: For the 5th year running, Newcastle-born director Scott Blick, living and working for 22 years in the Netherlands, will be returning to Newcastle and present his latest opera production at the DAPA Theatre in Hamilton.

This year Scott will be presenting a programme of works by French composer Jacques Offenbach. Performing in the production are two young Australian male singers, also living and working in the Netherlands, as well as the Dutch Soprano Janneke Daalderop. The accompaniment will be supplied by Newcastle-based pianist Vincent Parmeter.

The first half of the programme will include excerpts from Offenbach’s La Périchole, La Vie Parisienne, Orphéé aux Enfers and La belle Hélène

The second half of the programme is devoted to the Australian premiere of Offenbach’s short chamber opera PEPITO. A delightful farce about love during times of war, Pepito is rich in Offenbach's typically beautiful melodies. We’ve set the piece in a small Australian town at the end of WWII, and in keeping with our other productions, this Australian premiere will be performed in colloquial English making it more accessible for audiences of all ages. A fun outing for the whole family.
